Reputations Then and Now, is being dead really the best test of being good?

“The only way I can regain credit for my early work is to die.”
–Kurt Vonnegut

In thinking this week about how the author’s life and the impact living (real living, not remaining in a room, in a home, thinking about living) influences the quality of a writer’s work, we reread an LA Times piece from October.

“Slaughter & Rubble” by Richard Rayner is a wonderful look at the life and work of Vonnegut. A must read for anyone aspiring to write and doubly so for anyone wishing to pen an American tale.
