Every Child Can be College Material: Urban Prep Academy

OK, if you haven’t heard, Urban Prep Academy, an all-male charter school with kids from the “worst” parts of Chicago, is sending out every young man in its graduating class straight to college. That’s right 100% of their students were accepted to 4-year colleges and universities all over the nation.

This is a school where only 4% of its incoming freshmen were reading at grade level when they arrived on campus. But UP got these kids up to speed, allowing them to break free from the label “Failure” and surpass students at every other public school in the entire United States.

No other school in the nation can boast 100% acceptance of a graduating class.  And, this is UP’s second year in a row of 100% acceptance! Whatever your views on education, or charter schools, or Black men in today’s society, we all need to take a moment and shower praise on some true heros, the graduating scholars of Urban Prep.

The Urban Prep Creed

We believe.
We are the young men of Urban Prep.
We are college bound.
We are exceptional-not because we say it, but because we work hard at it.
We will not falter in the face of any obstacle placed before us.
We are dedicated, committed and focused.
We never succumb to mediocrity, uncertainty or fear.
We never fail because we never give up.
We make no excuses.
We choose to live honestly, nonviolently and honorably.
We respect ourselves and, in doing so, respect all people.
We have a future for which we are accountable.
We have a responsibility to our families, community and world.
We are our brothers’ keepers.
We believe in ourselves.
We believe in each other.
We believe in Urban Prep.
