Have you been tested? The Psychopath Test and other important tests you should know about.

Today is National HIV Testing Day.  Ok, it’s not cool to talk about it, but it’s the one day of the year you can. Don’t take the chance, talk to your loved one / partner / spouse.

Do the right thing. Even if you think you’re in a committed relationship, get tested.  One in five people with HIV are unaware of their status. Don’t let that one be you, or your loved one.

And while you’re hanging around the MD’s waiting to take your test . . . check out one of FAB’s Favs, Jon Ronson, a writer and documentary filmmaker whose books include: Them: Adventures with Extremists and The Men Who Stare at Goats (both international bestsellers). And of course, a Welshman!

The Men Who Stare at Goats you may recall was also released as a major motion picture in 2009, starring George Clooney (we give you a picture of George as a young boy below, so you’ll know even the most unpromising start can turn out well with contact lenses and a better hair cut!).  Ronson just released a new book, May 12, called The Psychopath Test. He talks about his latest book on This American Life, with Madeleine Brand, and gives an eye-opening  reading about Tony of Broadmoor, click on the link that says ACT ONE. PSYCHO DABBLE.

Typical of Ronson’s work, it’s a madcap investigative journey that takes us down the rabbit hole with psychopaths, doctors, scientists, and everyone else who studies the psychopathic mind.

Ronson’s exploration of a potential hoax being played on the world’s top neurologists takes him, unexpectedly, into the heart of the “madness industry.” An influential psychologist who is convinced that many important CEOs and politicians are, in fact, psychopaths teaches Ronson how to spot these high-flying individuals by looking out for little telltale verbal and nonverbal clues. And so Ronson, armed with his new psychopath-spotting abilities, enters the corridors of power. He spends time with a death-squad leader institutionalized for mortgage fraud in Coxsackie, New York; a legendary CEO whose psychopathy has been speculated about in the press; and a patient in an asylum for the criminally insane who insists he’s sane and certainly not a psychopath.

Ronson not only solves the mystery of the hoax but also discovers, disturbingly, that sometimes the personalities at the helm of the madness industry are, with their drives and obsessions, as mad in their own way as those they study. And that relatively ordinary people are, more and more, defined by their maddest edges. With trademark humour, charm and investigative incision Ronson once again unearths dangerous truths and ask serious questions, this time about how we define normality in a world that often celebrates madness.

George Clooney, yep, it's really him!
