“You will never be alone with a poet in your pocket.”

“You will never be alone with a poet in your pocket.”

— John Adams, 2nd US President

Cervantes was a favorite pocket companion of the delegate from Boston, and perhaps at times Adams thought his task of creating a nation from scratch was a bit Quixotic.

April 17th is Poem in Your Pocket Day, so we are warning you early to be sure you have your pockets stuffed with favorite old stand-bys, and perhaps some of your own work, to stuff in the pockets of friends, coworkers, lovers, your pet’s collar, a tree crook . . . . everywhere!  Or why not go modern and text a quatrain of Khyamm or Rumi, or tweet a haiku of Natsume, or call an answering machine and leave some reckless iambic pentameter , a silly sonnet, or a very imprudent limerick  . . . .
