The beauty of words, silver and light tripping off the tongue

“The artist, like the God of the Creation, remains within or behind or beyond or above his handiwork, invisible, refined out of existence, indifferent, paring his fingernails.”

— James Joyce

Feb 2 was the birthday of James Joyce. He’s perhaps the most thought of writer when someone mentions Irish writers at their most sublimely eloquent.

If you’ve never read his works, or been put off by them, take a moment to listen to a short version of his life this week. Garrison Kellior devoted the Feb 2 edition of his “The Writer’s Alamanc” to Joyce . It’s so touching, you’ll actually want to try to finish Ulysses — again.
